Henkel to continue as official partner

Chennai: After the cancellation of the Rally Dakar at the beginning of the year the Amaury-Sport-Organisation (ASO) is now presenting the first run of the Dakar Series 2008, one year earlier than originally planned.

From April 19 to 26 this year the Central Europe Rally will lead competitors through challenging grounds from the Hungarian capital Budapest through the Romanian Carpathians back to the Balaton Lake in Hungary.

Among the 250 participants are top teams like Mitsubishi, VW, BMW and KTM. With its participation in this first event of the new Dakar Series, Henkel will continue as official partner of the Central Europe Rally.

Over the past three years, the company has established an excellent track record in a highly demanding race.

Children’s chess

Vishy Anand Chess Academy will organise the Hero cycles State-level children’s tournament on April 19 and 20 at G.K. Shetty Vivekananda Vidyalaya Junior College, C.T.H. Road, Ambattur.

The event is open to under- 8,10,12,14 & 18. Entries close on April 17.

Entry fee is Rs. 150 and membership fee of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association is Rs.70 for the year 2008-09. Email www.tnchess64@yahoo.com .

Kailasam and Chandramouli win

S. Kailasam and Chandramouli won the T. Nagar Social club open pairs’ event held on Tuesday with a score of 67.95 per cent sitting East-West.

R.V. Subramanian and L. Ravichandran won in the North-South direction with a score of 58.01 per cent.

Other results:

North-South: 2. P. Narayan Iyer and P. Suryanarayana 57.85 per cent; 3. P.S. Santhanam and V. Krishnan 57.53 per cent. East-West: 2. R.V.S. Manian and Subba Rao 60.74 per cent; 3. Sandeep Dang and Kumar 58.01.
