Artistic foray: Noted Bharatanatyam dancer Geeta Chandra is part of the dance drama. Bangalore: This dance drama takes an epic and interprets it to convey contemporary messages: issues such as women’s disempowerment and female foeticide. Rasaja Foundation’s “Mythologies Retold” is conceptualised and produced by Sandhya Raman, an alumna of the National Institute of Design whose versatile career has spanned 20 years. Here she explores the interplay of textures and fabrics with the rhythm of dance. The Rasaja Foundation was formed by her in 1984 and is an educational, scientific and cultural institution. Mythologies Retold hopes to bring to the young generation a unique multi-media experience, and will focus on the accretion of images of women in India. Mythologies Retold is a “labour of love” for Sandhya, reflecting her experiences while working with the most amazing women of India, and a tribute to the undying spirit of these women. It is also an attempt to empower women to draw inspiration from within. The production has the collaboration of Geeta Chandran, noted Bharatanatyam dancer who has explored unusual artistic partnerships with painters, musicians, puppeteers and theatre persons. The dance drama will be performed at 6.45 p.m. at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on April 9.
