Shimla: Citing difficult topography, Himachal Pradesh Government would ask the Centre to relax a key condition for setting for setting up an IIT and a Central University in the hill State, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Thursday. 500 acres land“The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has sought over 500 acres of land near an airport for setting up an IIT in Mandi and a Central University in Kangra district of the State,” he said in the State Assembly in reply to a question from Congress member Kaul Singh Thakur. Considering the topography of the State, it is very difficult to make available such a vast tract of land for these projects, he said adding his government would write to the Centre to relax the condition. The State Government had succeeded in getting the conditions relaxed for Prime Minister Sadak Yojna in the past and would do the same for these projects also, he added. Mr. Dhumal said the condition might be part of the Centre’s effort to deny the hill State (ruled by BJP) on such “impractical” condition. Earlier, replying to the question of Kaul Singh Thakur, Education Minister I.D. Dhiman said Deputy Commissioner of Kangra has been entrusted with the task of locating land for the proposed Central University. -- PTI
