Restore cheque power, say sarpanches
Staff Reporter
Sangareddy: Office bearers of the Medak District Sarpanches Forum on Thursday met the Collector Piyush Kumar and demanded restoration of cheque powers to sarpanches to weaker sections.
They pointed that most of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe sarpanches are uneducated and were not aware of the audit norms.
As a result they failed to audit their records in time which led to the suspension cheque powers by the Collector.
They told the collector that the 63 sarpanches who lost their cheque powers are members of the 21943 sarpanches from all over the State and any decision against them would be treated as defaming the whole sarpanch community.
They also said that the sarpanches who have to face the acute shortage of funds are further put to test by the decision of the Collector.
President of the forum Dokuri Rammohan Reddy, general secretary Sadani Bhumanna Yadav, secretary Chevella Vithal were among the leaders that met the Collector.
