Weaker sections promised land rights
Staff Reporter
ADILABAD: Chairman of State SC, ST Commission, M. Nagarjuna on Thursday assured members of Scheduled Caste communities in Adilabad’s agency areas of taking their plea to the notice of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The SC members had sought a special package for themselves so that they could also get rights to lands being tilled by them on the lines of such rights to tribals in agency areas.
Mr. Nagarjuna was informed that though poor SCs inhabited many villages in tribal area in the district, they fared worse because of regulations not favouring them. Act 1 of 1970 that laid down curbing of land transaction in agency areas had also negatively impacted them, some SC leaders pointed out during the Commissions’ one day visit to Utnoor. Tribal leaders from this place demanded reopening of the closed RTC depot at Utnoor.
The Chairman, accompanied by member Kishan Naik visited Jainoor Mandal Samakhya building and the girls hostel there. He interacted with the inmates besides checking on quality of food.
