MALAPPURAM: The Ma’dinu Ssquafathil Islamiyya launched its year-long celebrations at Swalat Nagar near here on Thursday. The festivities titled ‘Encomium’ marked honouring of Islamic scholars from around the world. The programme kicked off with the flag-hoisting by Sayed Umer Mohammed Alquaf from Yemen. Umer Abdullah Kamil, coordination committee chairman of the International Islamic University, Malaysia, conducted a class as part of the inaugural ceremony. A debate led by Sheik Habeeb Umer Hafeedh, international scholar and founder of the Darul Mustafa University, Yemen, was conducted on Ma’din campus on Thursday. The day-long session titled ‘Alhikmah Ma’al Habeeb’ saw senior scholars discussing and interpreting the world-famous Islamic book ‘Kitab al Hikmah.’ Kanthapuram A.P. Abubacker Musaliyar, general secretary of the All India Jamiyyathul Ulama, who got the Mutha’ala from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, was honoured on the occasion. Mass ‘ziyarat’A mass ziyarat (visit) at the shrine of O.K. Zainuddeen Muslyar at Othukkungal took place on Thursday afternoon. Sayed Habeeb Umer Thangal led the ziyarat. Dr. Abdullah Kamil and Mr. Abubacker Musaliyar also attended the ziyarat prayer. The chief guests were led to Swalat Nagar from Othukkungal in a convoy of hundreds of vehicles. As the procession entered the Ma’din campus, the Mawlid teams from Syria, Morocco and Saudi Arabia began chanting Mawlid (hymns in praise of Prophet Mohammed). Sheik Hafeedh formally inaugurated Encomium on Thursday evening. Mr. Abubacker Musaliyar was the chief guest at the function. Ma’din Chairman Sayed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari delivered the ‘encomium speech’. Dr. Kamil delivered the keynote address. Delegates from Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Morocco attended the function.
