Rs.597.68 crore set aside for meeting credit needs of various sections of society Agriculture sector to get Rs.598.89 crore; Rs.346.77 crore for trade and services sector KASARAGOD: A meeting of the Kasaragod district-level banking review committee held here on Thursday announced a credit outlay of Rs.1,604.04 crore for the district for 2008-09. Of this, the agriculture sector will get Rs.598.89 crore. A sum of Rs.346.77 crore was earmarked for the trade and services sector. The credit plan has set aside Rs.597.68 crore for meeting the credit needs of various sections of society. Development projectsInaugurating the review meeting, Kasaragod Collector A.T. James demanded that the outflow of credit be expedited for ensuring speedy implementation of development activities in the district. The Collector released the credit plan by handing over a copy to K.D. Joseph, assistant general manager, Reserve Bank of India. In his speech, Mr. Joseph expressed satisfaction over the performance of the banks in the district in credit distribution. M. Kalidasan, chief manager, Syndicate Bank regional office, Kannur, delivered the keynote address. He said the financial institutions in the district distributed Rs.1,443 crore during the period from April 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007. While the agriculture sector was given a sum of Rs.390.49 crore as loan, the non-priority sector received Rs.837.85 crore as loan. K. Premakumar, assistant general manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, spoke. Lead district manager K.T. Shivadasa welcomed the gathering. K. Abdul Jaleel proposed a vote of thanks.
