Passenger train hits tractor

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: The Villupuram-Puducherry passenger train had a narrow escape when it hit a brick laden tractor-trailer at an unmanned level crossing at P.Thotti near Valavanur on Thursday morning. However, nobody was injured in the accident.

The police said that when the tractor was passing through the level crossing, it got struck owing to a mechanical snag. On noticing the train arrive, the tractor driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

The train came to a halt after hitting the tractor. But neither the engine nor the bogies suffered any damage. However, the tractor and the trailer got separated and were pushed away on either side of the track.

After getting clearance from the officials at the Villupuram junction, the train left to Puducherry, about an hour behind schedule.
