Demolish old group houses: CPI

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: The Tirumaiyam Taluk unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the district administration to demolish the group houses in a dilapidated condition in parts of the taluk and re-construct the same, as a precautionary measure. In a statement issued here on Thursday, the taluk secretary of the party A. L. Raj said that the group houses allotted to the Dalits in Vellalapatti village in Oliyamangalam village panchayat, Soorapatti in Usilampatti panchayat, Kamarajarpuram Colony in Meladhaniyam panchayat, Idayampatti and Sambapatti both in Keezhadhaniyam panchayat, which were constructed a few decades ago, were in a dilapidated condition.

Special funds

A majority of these group houses were in a bad condition, posing a threat to the occupants, he said, urging the State Government to sanction special funds for the purpose.
