Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has said that the State government is afraid to face a CBI probe into the Kannur killings. Referring to the High Court verdict on the Kannur killings, Mr. Chandy said in a statement here on Thursday, that the judicial observations reflected the actual situation in Kannur. The verdict reflected public sentiments because all sections desired an end to the decades old killings in the district. The State government should fully accept the essence of the court verdict that the stumbling block to peace in Kannur was the partisan functioning of officials who danced to the tune of their political masters. The court pointed out the lapses in maintaining law and order in Kannur. The court direction to establish a special trial court for Kannur case and against the transfer of officials of the special investigation reflected its desire to restore peace. The government, instead of accepting this reality, had taken a position that would amount to harassing the people and spending funds, he said.
