Language must not be a bar

For worship, says Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigalar

Appreciation: Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigalar giving away the title ‘Kuralnerichelvar’ to Punitha Ganesan, R. Kaliyaperumal, left, M. Gopalakrishnan, second from left, and Asif Ali, right, at a function in Thanjavur on Wednesday.

THANJAVUR: People can worship God in the language they know and there should not be any discrimination against one language in temple worship said Ponnambala Adigalar of Kundrakudi Mutt here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the 34th anniversary of Ulaga Thirukkural Peravai, Adigalar said that it was unfortunate that a language (Tamil) which helped Saivism to flourish is now treated as an "untouchable" by the same religion.

It was in Chidambaram that the God gave the first line of Periyapuranam ‘Ulagelam.’

Nearly 1300 years ago, Tirugnanasambandar with his Tamil devarams revived Saivism.

Ulaga Thirukkural Peravai will always work towards removing any hurdle for the development of Tamil and Tamilians, Adigalar said.

Titles conferred

Adigalar conferred ‘Kuralnerichemmal’ titles on Tamil scholars R. Kaliyaperumal, P. Thambaiah and M. Gopalakrishnan, S. Asif Ali, Thanjavur district convenor of Vetri Thamizhar Peravai and Punitha Ganesan, Secretary and Correspondent of Bharath College of Science and Management at the function. President of the Ulaga Thirukkural Peravai S. P. Anthonisamy presided over the function, and its secretary Pazha Maravarman, secretary and treasurer K. Amalraj offered felicitations.
