Asks local body to lay roads dug for underground drainage scheme

“Allot funds for completion of gauge conversion work”

THANJAVUR: The Chamber of Industries and Commerce here has appealed to the Thanjavur Municipality not to raise the property tax beyond 25 per cent for all categories.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the chamber’s executive committee meeting held here on Wednesday. K.R. Annamalai, the newly elected president presided.

The resolution said that the Municipality has taken steps to revise the property tax from April 1.

It has been learnt that the local body has decided to increase 25 per cent for houses, 100 per cent for industries and 150 per cent for commercial complex.

The hike should be uniform 25 per cent for all categories without any differentiation.

The chamber also appealed to the local body to lay the roads dug for underground drainage.

As the work has now been completed, Municipality should take steps to relay the roads immediately.

Electric crematorium established at a cost of Rs.75 lakh remains defective for the past two years.

It should be repaired and put to use.

The chamber also pointed out to the stagnation of rainwater under low bridge and demanded construction of an over bridge from Santhapillai gate.

It appealed to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to allot enough funds for early completion of gauge conversion work in the main line from Mayiladuturai to Villupuram.

Till its completion, a direct night express train from Thanjavur to Chennai should be operated via Tiruchi apart from the present split coach service from Kumbakonam via Thanjavur connected to Rockfort Express at Tiruchi.
