Getting ready: Maintenance work in progress on the car of Sri Muthumariamman in Narthamalai, Pudukottai district.
PUDUKOTTAI: The temple authorities have made special arrangements for the temple car festival at Sri Muthumariamman Temple in Narthamalai, near here.
The festival, which falls on Monday, marks the ninth-day of religious rituals of the ten-day ‘Panguni tiruvizha’ which commenced on March 30.
Stapathis from Perambalur have been camping at the village carrying out annual maintenance of the temple-car.
One of the co-ordinators of the festival committee R. Murugaiah said that special arrangements have been made for ensuring the smooth conduct of the car-festival, facilitating a large number of devotees to offer their worship.
Executive Officer B. Kadarkarai has taken special efforts by demolishing a part of the outer praharam. Till last year, the narrow portion of this ‘praharam,’ which formed the exit point, caused a great inconvenience to both the devotees to get out of the temple, and the authorities and police personnel to regulate the crowd.
Every year, it is a local holiday for the State Government offices and educational institutions in the district.
