Shops to down shutters on April 8
Staff Reporter
SALEM: All commercial establishments in Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Erode will down shutters on April 8 in protest against the attitude of political parties in Karnataka and Kannada with regard to the Hogenakkal water supply scheme.
Over 40,000 commercial establishments in these districts would participate in the strike called by the traders associations, Salem City Chamber of Commerce general secretary A. Jeyaseelan has said. The strike would showcase the wholehearted support of the trading community for the execution of the scheme, he said.
The Centre and the Karnataka Government had given their consent for the scheme in 1998 itself.
But the Kannada outfits were opposing the scheme and resorting to acts, which would endanger the Nation’s integrity, he pointed out.
