CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat after his re-election at the party Congress in Coimbatore on Thursday. COIMBATORE: Prakash Karat was re-elected for the second term the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on the concluding day of its 19th party Congress here on Thursday. Mr. Karat took over the reins of the party at the 18th party Congress in New Delhi in April 2005 from Harkishan Singh Surjeet. Amid slogans of “Lal Salaam” and “Inquilab Zindabad” and raised fists of the party leaders and delegates in an expression of solidarity, he said the party was declaring an all-out war against communalism. “Our party has most consistently been the opponent of all forms of communalism and the fight against such forces, represented by the BJP-RSS combine, will be conducted with all our energy. You have seen how the RSS is targeting our party offices, cadres, workers and supporters; we will go all out in our battle against communalism,” he said.
