GUNTUR: Take up rural and tribal development with a missionary zeal, former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam told young doctors at Chinnakondrupadu in the district on Thursday after inaugurating the Viswayogi Institute of Medical Sciences Mother and Child Hospital.

Accepting to be the honorary chairman of the hospital, Mr. Kalam said that the institute was unique with spiritual environment, medical care and benevolent hearts coming together in a rural setting.

He advised the management of the 36-bed hospital, that would be expanded to 360-bed hospital, to adopt 50 villages surrounding the hospital and register all would-be mothers to provide them pre-natal care.

An ambulance must be kept ready at the hospital to bring all women for hygienic and quality medical care during child birth from these villages, he told them.

You must work for bridging the urban and rural divide in quality medicare, he told the doctors at the hospital.

Gain exposure while working here, but have some social commitment also instead of running for money in an urban setting, he advised the young doctors.

Home Minister K. Jana Reddy, Animal Husbandry Minister Mandali Buddha Prasad, Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, well-known doctors Nori Dattatreyudu and Somaraju were present besides Akula Koteswara Rao, convener of Viswamanava Samaikhya Samsad.
