Decision on byelection date soon

HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India on Thursday indicated to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer I.V. Subbarao that it would take a decision on the dates for conduct of byelections to 18 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats in the State “as quickly as possible”.

Mr. Subbarao met the Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami and other top officials at Nirvachan Bhavan at New Delhi.

Clarity sought

Mr. Rao sought guidance and clarity on a number of issues in view of his impending responsibility to conduct bypolls to a large number of seats at a time.
