Security along Nepal border stepped up

Patna: Security along the 750 km-long and porous Indo-Nepal border in Bihar has been beefed up in view of the ensuing Constituent Assembly elections in the Himalayan kingdom on April 10.

Bihar Principal Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha reviewed the security arrangements with senior officials of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), CRPF, Central intelligence agencies and District Magistrates and SPs of three border districts of Kishanganj, Supaul and Araria having 250 km border with Nepal at Purnea on Thursday.

The Home secretary and DGP will discuss and evolve strategies at Muzaffarpur to check infiltration of militants, trans-border activities like smuggling of firearms to Nepal with the District Magistrates of East and West Champaran, Sitamarhi and Sheohar districts which share over 500 km stretch of open border with Nepal, the DGP said before leaving for Muzaffarpur to attend the meeting.

Mr. Sinha said the Indo-Nepal border would be sealed four days before the elections in Nepal on April 10 and the SSB have been asked to intensify patrolling and to keep a close vigil on the people crossing the borders. -- PTI
