Kochi: The Kerala High court on Friday directed the State government to evict encroachers occupying government land within six months. A Division Bench comprising Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair and Justice T.R. Ramachandran Nair granted six months to the government to evict those encroaching on government land. The Bench observed that the government should ensure that only eligible persons were assigned its lands. While so many deserving people are left on the streets, the government land is being held by encroachers, he observed while considering a petition complaining that members of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes were not assigned government land. Issues directiveThe Kerala High Court directed the State government to inform it of the steps being taken to face the ongoing non-cooperation strike by the government doctors. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice K.M. Joseph directed the Advocate-General to file an affidavit in this regard within a week. The government had earlier stated in an affidavit that the KGMOA was taking an “adamant’ stand on the issue. Meanwhile, the writ petition filed by the KGMOA seeking a directive to revive their pay and allowances has been withdrawn. — PTI
