Put off KERC recruitment: BJP

Bangalore: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to put off the process of selection as well as appointment of a new member to the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission till the formation of a new government.

The BJP has submitted a letter to Governor’s Adviser Krishna Kumar appealing to him to direct the authorities concerned to put off the selection process. A vacancy had arisen in the three-member KERC with the retirement of Finance Member Subramanya on March 12. Following this, the State Government issued an advertisement calling for applications to fill up the vacancy. March 31 was the last date for submitting applications.

Addressing presspersons, BJP spokesperson S. Suresh Kumar sought to remind the Governor that the moral code of conduct was in vogue following announcement of election dates. “It is only appropriate that a decision on such an important matter, which will have a deep impact on the entire power sector and people of Karnataka at large, is taken by a representative government,” he said.

The functioning of the commission will not be affected as it has got two other members, including the chairman, he said.

Mr. Suresh Kumar alleged that the manner in which the application had been called was in violation of the norms prescribed in the Karnataka Electricity Reforms Act-1999.
