Good show by refinery

KOCHI: Crude oil throughput at Bharat Petroleum Limited (BPCL)-Kochi Refinery touched an all-time high of 8.2 million tonnes during the financial year 2007-08.

The refinery achieved record production of LPG (4,42,179 tonnes), petrol (8,75,463 tonnes), aviation turbine fuel (2,82,991 tonnes) and sulphur (24,343 tonnes) during the period, said a press release here on Friday.

The refinery also achieved record production in different grades of petrol including BS-II Motor Spirit (7,74,635 tonnes) and Euro-III motor spirit (1,00,798 tonnes) and different grades of diesel comprising BS-II HSD (3,24,3700 tonnes), Euro-III HSD (93,042 tonnes) and LSHF HSD (89,630 tonnes), the press release said.

The refinery commissioned the Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility here in November last year, which helps it receive crude oil in large carriers and bring down the cost of transportation to a significant level, the release said.

The refinery also won various awards such as the Kerala State Pollution Control Board Award for consistent top grade performance in pollution control and environment protection; National Safety Council (Kerala Chapter) Awards for outstanding performance, best safety committee and safety management and the Green Tech Foundation’s Gold Award for safety management, the press release said.
