Two rescued, produced before court

Staff Reporter

DINDIGUL: As per direction of the Judicial Magistrate Court-II, two persons, who were under police custody in Dindigul north police station, were rescued and produced before the court here on Thursday. Later, the court directed them to be admitted to the government headquarter hospital for treatment.

Acting on a petition filed by their lawyer, the JM court judge Radhakrishnan issued a search warrant and deputed lawyer Thirumalai Balaji to search the police station to find out the two persons.

After hectic parleys, the lawyer rescued them from the station and produced them before the court.

Later, the duo had given an in-camera statement before the judge. As per court direction, Dindigul Town Deputy Superintendent of Police Adhi Narayanan and Inspector A. Thangavelu, too appeared before the court and gave their statements.

The petition stated that Anandakumar of Muthu Nagar and his friend Murthy of Ram Nagar had borrowed Rs.7.50 lakh from Murugesan, a pipe manufacturer on submission of 11 cheques. They had returned Rs.9.63 lakhs. But Murugesan demanded more money from them. When they refused to pay further, he filed a cheating case against them on production of blank cheques in the bank.

Meanwhile, Mr. Adhi Narayanan and Mr. Thangavelu reportedly secured and kept them in the police station for interrogation. The prosecution said that they had already obtained anticipatory bail.
