Three children drown in a pond

Staff Reporter

The children went to play in a pond located in the neighbouring village after school hours

ANANTAPUR: Three children aged between eight and ten drowned accidentally in Mulakanuru village of Kambaduru mandal in the district on Thursday afternoon.

However, the incident came to light only in the night.

According to the information reaching here, three children of the village -- Ranganath, Thimmarajulu and Archana -- went outside the village to play in a pond located in the neighbouring village after school hours in the afternoon. The pond formed under the NREGS was filled by rainwater recently.

Trapped

The children after getting into the knee-deep water could not come out as they were trapped in mud and all the three drowned slowly. Neither their parents nor other villagers were aware of the incident.

As the children failed to return even after nightfall the parents and other villagers launched a search and found the bodies of the three floating in the pond around 8 p.m.

Ranganath and Thimmarajulu were brothers while Archana was the only daughter to her parents.
