IMPHAL: Sumant Singh, Collector of Churachandpur in Manipur, has confirmed the deaths of several children in the interior areas of the district due to some mysterious diseases. His official information was that nine children had died as against the media figure of 11. Mr. Singh ruled out outbreak of any fatal diseases as an epidemic. He said information suggested that the children died due to some water-borne diseases. A medical team, carrying medicines, rushed to the interior areasto doprimary investigation. If the disease could not be established on the spot, samples of the dead would be sent to other States for further analysis. The Collector said doctors and paramedics, with adequate life-saving medicines, were kept in readiness to meet any eventuality.
