New entrance test for teachers in Haryana

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Education Department has decided to introduce a new State Teachers’ Entrance Test System to recruit efficient teachers for various schools in the State, Higher Education Commissioner Shiv Raman Gaur announced on Friday.Addressing newly-recruited Assistant Public Relations Officers here, he said the State Government had implemented several schemes to improve the quality of education in the State. The budget for higher education had been increased from Rs.115 crore to Rs.150 crore during this financial year.

Centres of excellence

He disclosed that 25 colleges had been declared as Centres of Excellence as far as their infrastructure and performance was concerned. Work would begin from the current academic session to provide world class facilities for education and also for extra-curricular activities like sports, music, open air theatres and spoken English classes in these colleges.

He said the Department was also considering introduction of semester system in colleges. According to a survey, a majority of people were in favour of implementing such a system, he added.
