News Analysis
>>It is Biman Bose, and not Biman Basu as incorrectly mentioned in a report “Jyoti Basu will continue on Central Committee” (April 4, 2008). We had issued a similar correction on November 24, 2007. >>In a report “PDS rice stock position comfortable: official” (Tamil Nadu, April 4, 2008), the second paragraph was “The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) has stocked 6.5 lakh tonnes of paddy and 2.5 lakh tonnes of rice. In addition, the State is getting 2.96 tonnes of rice from the Central pool both under above the poverty line and below the poverty line quota.” It should have been 2.96 lakh tonnes. >>In a report “Mayawati slams Opposition parties for backing Tikait” (April 3, 2008), the first paragraph was “Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday justified her decision to delay taking action against Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Mahendra Singh Tikait, saying Ms. Mayawati said the police and administrative officials had been asked to exercise patience.” It was an error in the early editions. The sentence was later corrected as “Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday justified her decision to delay action against Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Mahendra Singh Tikait, saying the police and officials had been asked to exercise patience.” It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible.
