KOCHI: Central Excise and Cochin Port Trust posted big wins in the Ernakulam District Premier Division Football League here on Friday. Central Excise drubbed Ernakulam XI 7-0 in a Group ‘A’ fixture at the Udyogamandal FACT Ground. Cochin Port Trust blanked Bolghatty Footballers 3-0 in Group ‘B’ at the Maharaja’s College Stadium. The top two teams from each group progress to the league’s main phase which will be played at the Maharaja’s Stadium later this month. Viva Kerala, which won all its matches at Udyogamandal, has already qualified for the main phase. — Principal Correspondent Independence posts winIndependence SC beat Young Indians 5-2 in the Videocon Kozhikode District ‘A’ Division football league at Kozhikode on Friday. Ramshad, Daneesh Kumar, Naufla, Nisheed and Mohan Kumar scored for the winner, while for Young Indians Jamsheer netted both the goals. Chandni FC thrashed Falcons 3-0, with Niaz Rahman (two) and Rajesh doing the scoring, while KTC and Young Challengers played out a goalles draw.
