CHANDIGARH: R. Sathish’s savage hitting paved the way for Chennai Superstars’s 32-run victory over Kolkata Tigers in a battle for the third place in the Indian Cricket League’s Edelweiss 20s Challenge here on Friday. The victory for Superstars, winner of the inaugural edition in November-December last year, was worth Rs. 75 lakh. Tigers got Rs. 50 lakh. Chasing Superstars’s mammoth 186 for four in 20 overs, Tigers was bowled out for 154 in 18.4 overs at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium. Tigers stayed in the hunt until openers Deep Dasgupta (34, 17 balls, one 6, six 4s) and dangerman Lance Klusener departed in successive overs with 55 runs on the board. Thereafter, Craig McMillan (35, 22 balls, three 6s, two 4s) provided some excitement. For Superstars’s, Thiru Kumaran and V. Devendran took three wickets each. Earlier, Superstars dominated Tigers after opener G. Vignesh (40, 19 balls, two 6s, six 4s) set the pace and Sathish (86 not out, 42 balls, four 6s, eight 4s) provided a strong finish. With Hemang Badani, who scored a run-a-ball 36, Sathish raised 108 runs for the fourth wicket. It was indeed the day of Man-of-the-Match Sathish. Having done his bit with the bat, he brought off a stunning catch to send back Upul Chandana. Stationed at deep midwicket, Sathish took the catch overhead on the run. Realising that he was in danger of going over the ropes, he showed brilliant presence of mind. Sathish lobbed the ball from this right hand and quickly recovered to dive full length forward for a low two-handed catch. The scores: Chennai Superstars 186 for four in 20 overs (R. Sathish 86 n.o., G. Vignesh 40, Hemang Badani 36, Abu Nechim three for 28) bt Kolkata Tigers 153 in 18.4 overs (Craig McMillan 35, Deep Dasgupta 34, T. Kumaran three for 12, V. Devendran three for 35).
