House panel tells Collector to fill SC, ST backlog posts

Sangareddy: The House Committee on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, which is on a two-day visit to the district, has asked the district Collector to fill 17 SC, ST backlog posts in two months.

Disclosing this at a press conference on Friday, leader of the four-member committee Soudagar Gangaram expressed satisfaction over the implementation of roster system and land distribution taken up in the district.

The committee members, who held a review meeting with district officials, expressed displeasure over the failure to hand over land to the beneficiaries even after the distribution of pattas.

Mr. Gangaram said that Collector Piyush Kumar had assured the committee that he would complete the work within a month.

Low turnout

The committee members expressed concern over lack of representations from Dalit associations and individuals at the open session in the morning.

Mr. Gangaram pointed out that only 22 representations were received which was very low when compared to the nine districts the committee members had covered.

He attributed it to the lack of awareness among weaker sections about the existence of a committee meant for their welfare. He said that the status of SC and ST communities was comparatively better in Nellore and Kadapa districts. The committee also reviewed the progress of cases under the SC and ST Atrocities Act. Superintendent of Police R.B. Nayak said that only two cases out of 52 had been solved in seven years. MLAs--P. Rajeswari Devi, M. Narsimha and legislator Jelli Wilson were present .
