IPTV services in city by next month

HYDERABAD: Goldstone Technologies will be launching its IPTV services, called ‘TV Origin’, in the twin cities to those having BSNL broadband connection towards the last week of May.

The same will be extended to 10 other towns in the State by the end of September. The services will be made available to 94 other cities in the country by next year. It will also be launching video VoIP (voice-over Internet protocol) in about three months.

Talking to presspersons here on Friday, president and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the company Rajesh Kalidindi said that the IPTC services were already being offered in Thailand and would be extended to 11 other countries, including Malaysia, Germany and France, in the next one year.

The company was targeting at least 70,000 connections by the end of March 2009 in the twin cities.

He said that 68 channels, including ETV, Zee TV and Star network packages, would be on offer.

What an IPTV would mean to an end-customer? Those having BSNL broadband could watch the channels offered on their TV for about Rs. 50 a month and the set-top box might have a tag of Rs. 30 towards rent.

Movie-on-demand was another interesting scheme in which a cinema could be ordered for a price and the same could be watched in a span of 24 hours (need not be one dayThe company, was expecting to touch Rs. 500 crore in the next financial year through IPTV and media business.
