BHEL unit posts record turnover

HYDERABAD: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Ramachandrapuram, unit has posted a record turnover of Rs. 3,321 crore for 2007-08, which is 15 per cent more than last year.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Executive Director G. V. Rami Reddy said that the profit before tax was put at Rs. 801 crore for the fiscal, compared to Rs. 656 crore the last financial year, a growth of 22 per cent.

Targeted growth

The Ramachandrapuram unit targeted a growth of Rs. 1,000 crore for the next fiscal and a turnover of Rs. 7,000 crore by 2011-12.

The order book position for the unit was Rs. 8,766 crore. The plant proposed to introduce new products like gas turbines for gas transportation projects, air-cooled condensers, pumps for nuclear power plants, pulverizes for non-coal applications, oil rigs with AC drives and 800-KV switchgears. Mr. Reddy said that Fr-5 Gas turbine was commissioned at Konark Metcoke Ltd on coke oven gas. Compressor trains involving variable speed gear coupling was launched at Lekhwari, Yibal and Marmul sites for PDO in the last financial year. It also commissioned up-rated Fr-9E Gas Turbine-based power plants at Mukhaizna and Qarn Alam there. The company entered into a technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, Japan for pumps for higher rating and super critical applications, he disclosed.

The major export orders secured during the year under reference were: EPC contract for four gas turbines of Fr-9E category for 500 MW gas turbine-based open cycle power plant from Sulaymanyah, Iraq.
