Beijing: A fresh eruption of riots in a volatile Tibetan-inhabited region in southwest China has left at least one official seriously injured amid reports that the government would soon commence trials against people allegedly involved in the unrest last month. The violence broke out on Thursday night in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Garze in southwest China’s Sichuan province. It was also rocked by riots last month following fierce protests in two decades in the Tibetan capital Lhasa. One official was “attacked and seriously wounded” during the riots in Garze, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Friday. — PTI
