Chennai: The Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) has taken strong exception to the stringent restrictions sought to be imposed on the media, especially on photographers, for coverage of the DLF-Indian Premier League starting on April 18. In a letter to the BCCI President, Sharad Pawar, the SJFI has expressed “alarm and concern over the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India promoted Indian Premier League (IPL) to impose stringent restrictions on the media vis a vis coverage of the forthcoming IPL Twenty20 tournament. This is with specific reference to the clauses pertaining to photography at the venues.” The accreditation norms were discussed by the Sports Editors of leading newspapers on Friday. The conditions seek to prohibit the media from posting reports on the internet and require photographers to upload the pictures first on the IPL official site. The contentious clause relates to the right of the IPL to use all pictures taken at IPL grounds free of charge and use them without restrictions. “The IPL shall be entitled to use and reproduce, free of charge, worldwide and without limit in time any and all photographs/images captured by the accredited party at any ground and the accredited party shall make the same available promptly to IPL. The accredited party will (at his/her cost) upload the pictures to www.indianpremierleague.com within 24 hours of having taken the same.” — Special Correspondent
