Chennai: Punjab paceman Manpreet Goni will replace the injured Sudip Tyagi in the Chennai Super Kings squad for the Indian Premier League. V.B. Chandrasekar, the side’s Head of Cricket Operations, said the lanky Tyagi was suffering from a back injury. “He is undergoing treatment at the NCA, should be out of action for some time,” he told The Hindu on Friday. Tyagi, with his lively pace and bounce, had been impressive for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji season. Queried about the selection of Goni, Chandrasekar said, “I saw him bowl in the Punjab – Hyderabad Ranji match last season and liked what I saw. He is tall and strong, is nippy and takes the ball away.” Chandrasekar said the foreign stars will begin arriving here from April 11. Football tournament Nine Chennai Football Association senior division teams and two promoted sides feature in the Deccan Chronicle trophy football tournament to be held at the Nehru stadium from April 6 to 13. Briefing newsmen on Friday, M. Kumaresh, Vice President, CFA and Chairman of the organising committee, said that event was to be held on a knockout format. The teams in the fray are ICF, SAI, Arrows FC, Madras Sporting Union, SBI, Chennai Customs, Chennai Soccer, AG’s Office, TSP and the promoted sides Don Bosco Annai Youth and Southern Railway.
