Advocates stage protest

Protest was against ‘assault’ on lawyer
DCP promises action against SI

Bangalore: Traffic was affected near Mayo Hall after some advocates staged rasta roko protesting against the alleged assault on an advocate by a traffic sub-inspector here on Friday.

The police said that Ravindra Reddy, the advocate, was stopped by the Indiranagar traffic sub-inspector Rama Murthy near the Belanahalli Bridge in Byappanahalli police station limits and was asked to furnish the documents of the two-wheeler he was riding. The police said that both Mr. Reddy and the sub-inspector had a heated argument during which the sub-inspector allegedly assaulted Mr. Reddy.

Mr. Reddy later informed the Bar association and the lawyers staged a rasta roko in front the Mayo Hall demanding an apology from the sub-inspector. Vehicular movement on M.G. Road was affected for about 20 minutes. The advocates withdrew the protest only after Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic (East Division) Seemanth Kumar assured the protesters of action against the sub-inspector concerned.

The DCP said that a complaint had been registered at the Byappanahalli police station.
