Nursing home director held for beating woman

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The 56-year-old director of a nursing home has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman relative of a patient at Dabri in South-West Delhi.

Death of child

According to the police, Janakraj Dhami, Director of Shakuntala Nursing Home, beat up Rani with a stick on Wednesday after angry relatives vandalised the clinic protesting against the death of Suraj. “The five-year-old boy had sustained serious head injuries when a motorcycle hit him from behind on Tuesday. He was admitted to Shakuntala Nursing Home and succumbed to injuries on Wednesday evening. When the boy’s relatives came to know about the death, they gathered inside the nursing home and resorted to vandalism alleging negligence on part of the doctors. The relatives demanded that the body be handed over to them without performing post-mortem. But the nursing home authorities expressed their inability citing official procedures,” said a senior police officer.

As the crowd attacked the nursing home staff, Dhami got a stick from his cabin and allegedly beat up the woman in an effort to disperse the crowd. “The director was arrested and later let off on bail,” the police officer said.
