Court notice to Health Ministry, CBSE

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare, the Medical Council of India, the Central Board of Secondary Education and others petitions by students of two medical colleges of Maharashtra challenging a decision to declare their admissions to the MBBS course invalid.

The petitioners through their lawyers Surat Singh and R.K. Saini submitted that the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences had cancelled their admissions on the grounds that they had not obtained the minimum 50 per cent marks in their Class XII Board examinations and in the All-India Pre-Medical Entrance Examination conducted for admission to the MBBS course as required by the Medical Council of India guidelines. The petitioners challenged the grounds saying that the All-India Pre-Medical Entrance Examination was not governed by the Council’s guidelines.

Besides, nowhere had it been mentioned in the prospectus of their colleges that only those candidates would be eligible to appear in the entrance examination who had obtained 50 per cent in their Board examinations and entrance examination.

Justice Gita Mittal asked the respondents to file their replies by April 10.
