30,000 TV sets distributed in Perambalur district so far

PERAMBALUR: A total of 30,000 persons belonging to the economically weaker section in the district have benefited so far under the ‘free colour television scheme’, the Union Minister of Communication and Information Technology, A. Raja, said.
Speaking at a function to mark the distribution of the television sets at Melamathur near Kunnam recently, Mr. Raja said that free stoves were distributed to 7,500 persons in the district.
Major projects
Listing out the various major projects, including the Special Economic Zone, Government Medical College and the Combined Drinking Water supply scheme, to be implemented in the district, Mr. Raja said that the Chief Minister M. Karunananidhi accorded priority for the overall socio-economic development of the district.
The Minister gave away TV sets to 534 beneficiaries of Melamathur and 218 residents of Kiliyur on the occasion.
Collector Anil Meshram presided over the function.
