BJD to campaign against price rise

Staff Reporter

Ganjam district unit of the party organises a rally

BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam district unit of the BJD has chalked out a long-term plan to use recent price rise to create public awareness against the Congress and the UPA Government. Ganjam happens to be the home district of BJD chief and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

As part of the plan the district unit of the BJD organised a rally against price rise in the city on Saturday.

It was attended by BJD leaders from all over the district and led by Berhampur MLA, R.C.C.Patnaik and Khallikote MLA, Sugnana Kumari Deo. They organised a protest meeting in front of the office of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) and handed over a memorandum demanding that the Central Government take immediate measures to curb price rise.

Ganjam district president of the BJD Subas Moharana said this was the beginning of continuous rallies and demonstrations in the district which would continue till the election season.

Their main target would be the Congress and the alleged step-motherly attitude of the UPA towards Orissa. "But price rise would be our main issue for the conscious building rallies in the district as it would be easily accepted by the common mass," Mr Moharana said. During the month of April rallies and demonstrations against price rise would be held by the BJD in all the 22 blocks and 17 Notified Area Councils (NAC) of the district. It would be followed by street corner meetings at all panchayats over the issue of price rise.

Mr Moharana said the issue of price rise has come as a boon and the Ganjam unit wants to use it to revitalise party’s grass root level organisation through it.

The Congress and other opposition parties in Orissa have started targetting Ganjam district keeping next elections in mind as it happens to the home district of the BJD chief.

The BJD also thinks its base in the district as a thing of pride. So, the BJD want to take agitation for price rise to the village as a political ploy to garner political base.
