“Incorporate medical insurance in policy”
Special Correspondent
TIRUVANNAMALAI: Tiruvannamalai MLA K. Pitchandi has urged the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) to incorporate the medical insurance component in the ‘Jeevan Mathur’ policy introduced by the Corporation.
Distributing the policies to 600 members of women self-help groups at a function organised by the Field Publicity Office, Vellore, LIC, Vellore Division, and SINAM, a Tiruvannamalai-based non-governmental organisation, here on Saturday, Mr. Pitchandi said that by taking policies with the LIC, the people would be contributing to a public cause, as the revenues of the LIC go to fund major infrastructure projects of the State governments.
As the cost of medical care in private hospitals was high, the ordinary policyholders could make use of the facilities available in government hospitals, which were rendering good service. The LIC should also help them by including the medical insurance component in the ‘Jeevan Mathur’ policies, he said. R. Sridharan, Municipal Chairman, Tiruvannamalai, appealed to policyholders to promptly pay their premiums to avail of the benefits of the LIC policies. K. Ulaganathan, Manager, micro insurance, LIC, Vellore Division, said 6,000 Jeevan Mathur policies had been sold in the Vellore division in 2007-08, resulting in first premium income of Rs.15 lakh.
