KANNUR: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishing said here on Saturday that he had given instructions to the police that passport applicants should not be called to police stations as part of the verification of passport applications. He said the government had earlier issued an order entrusting Station House Officers with the verification work following complaints against District Special Branch officials who had been doing the work earlier. The Minister said the instruction was given in the wake of complaints that the new system of verification was causing delay and that the applicants were being called to police stations. — Staff Reporter
