Cooking gas pilferage
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has ordered conversion of a petition by an individual drawing its attention to pilferage of cooking gas in the Capital and the National Capital Region into a public interest litigation (PIL).
The petition has sought direction to the Centre to take steps to stop pilferage of cooking gas allegedly by the gas agencies and their staff in the Capital and the NCR.
Issuing the direction, Justice Gita Mittal said the petition by a social worker, Sanjay Tewari, be treated as a PIL. The Judge sent the petition to the Registry for marking it to a Bench for hearing by the Chief Justice.
In the petition, Mr. Tewari submitted that he had caught on camera employees of gas agencies taking out gas from filled cylinders meant for supply to customers and filling it into empty cylinders for supply in the black market.
