Age limit for SPF likely to be raised

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy agreed in principle to raise the age limit for recruitment to the posts pertaining to the Special Protection Force (SPF), Jails and Fire Services. But, he made it clear that due to administrative constraints, the Government was unable to raise the age in respect of recruitment for police Sub- Inspectors.

In the wake of two separate incidents involving students threatening to commit suicide by jumping from the roofs in Osmania and Andhra Universities on Friday, Dr. Reddy interacted with a delegation of students led by the State Unemployed Struggle Committee president R. Krishnaiah in the Secretariat on Saturday. Giving a patient hearing to their plea, Dr. Reddy said the interest of the State was more important than that of individuals. “ The State is doing its best in generating employment to all the needy, especially the youth,” he remarked.

“Due to administrative constraints, we are unable to raise the age in respect of recruitment to police Sub-Inspectors’ posts. Ours is the best State in the country in curbing naxal menace. We cannot compromise on issues pertaining to law and order,” he said dropping enough hint that the Government was not keen to raise the age limit from 25 to 28 years.
