IN FLAMES: The remains of the KSRTC bus, which was torched by unidentified persons on the flyover in Hosur on Saturday. Hosur: The 12-hour bandh called by all political parties in Hosur, to protest against Kannada outfits opposing the Hogenakkal drinking water supply scheme, on Saturday took a violent turn with unidentified persons torching a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus on the flyover. The incident took place around 2 p.m. when the miscreants stopped the bus bound for Bangalore from Villupuram. Police sources said they forced the 40 passengers out, poured petrol on the vehicle and set it afire. TensionIn another incident unidentified persons damaged the windscreens of a KSRTC bus near the old bus stand here. The bus carrying 30 passengers was going from Tirukovilur to Bangalore. With tension prevailing in the area, authorities stopped inter-State traffic on NH 7. Earlier in the morning, a few long distance buses were operated between the States. Police rushed additional forces to the area. Trucks laden with cargo from Tamil Nadu and other States were parked on both sides of NH 7 at Shoolagiri, Zuzuvadi, Rayakottai, Bagalur and Berigai. Normal life was disrupted with shops and business establishments closed in the industrial town. With government and private buses, call taxis and share autos off the road, office goers, factory workers and others were the worst affected. A majority of educational institutions in Hosur town had declared a holiday. Attendance was thin in many banks. Around 11 a.m. activists of all political parties took out a procession and burned the effigies of former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Vatal Nagaraj, leader of the Kannada Chaluvali Vala Paksha party, near the Zuzuvadi check-post.
