THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police have commenced investigation into the attack on Air India Manager (Security) S.S. Vatave in front of his residence on Karikkakom temple road on Friday night. Unidentified persons had reportedly hurled acid on Mr. Vatave around 7 p.m. when he reached home after duty. The acid was allegedly hurled from an adjacent vacant plot when Mr. Vatave was returning to his car after opening the gate. Mr. Vatave sustained burns on the right side of the face, chest, shoulder, head and on the right ear. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Mr. Vatave, who hails from Maharashtra, was posted as the Manager (Security) eight months ago for a year’s tenure in the city. He was reportedly a tough officer and was very strict with the personnel of the outsourcing agency involved in ground handling services at the international airport for the national carrier. The Pettah police have registered a case and have commenced investigations into the incident. The police said there was no eye-witness to the incident. The police sought the help of forensic experts to ascertain the nature of acid used in the attack.
