Coimbatore: Transport Department computerises tests for issuance of learner’s licence.

Under the project ‘Dedicated Learner’s Licence’, the applicants would now have to answer objective type questions on the screen instead of doing it manually.

It was launched by Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy in the presence of Collector V. Palanikumar.

The officials pointed out that modernisation of Transport Department would ensure that licence holders were aware of the road rules and road safety measures so as to avoid accidents.

Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, T. Gunasekaran, said the project was introduced at the office of the Regional Transport Officer (North) in the first phase and it would be extended to the other offices in the subsequent phases. A total of nine computers were installed at the North RTO at an outlay of Rs. 4 lakh under the supervision of the Regional Transport Officer (North), P. Harikrishnan.

The candidates have to answer 10 objective type questions on the computer screen by clicking the right option. At least seven answers should be right to get licence, motor vehicle inspector in charge of this project, M. Raju said.

The questions would be on road-safety, traffic rules, caution signs and road signs.

The system would record all basic details of the applicant serving requirements even for the issuance of permanent licence and for the future references. The modernisation would ensure speedy delivery of services.
