No compromise on State rights, says BJP

TIRUCHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party State unit vice-president H. Raja on Friday categorically said that Hogenakkal belonged to Tamil Nadu and that the party’s State unit would not compromise on the rights of Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Raja was replying to queries at a press conference here on Saturday. The Central government should intervene in this issue by talking to Karnataka and ensure the rights of Tamil Nadu. . The party’s State unit had taken a clear stand that Hogenakkal belonged to Tamil Nadu, he said. The former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP senior leader B.S. Yeddiyurappa’s reported comments against the water supply project was owing to a misunderstanding on the issue, Mr. Raja said. Condemning the violent incidents, Mr. Raja said there was no connection between the violence and BJP.

The party’s State unit members would talk to their Karnataka counterparts on this issue, he said.
