Man with toy pistol held

KARAIKUDI: A-50-year-old Congressman was caught with a toy pistol near the venue of a public meeting addressed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi here on Saturday.

The person was part of a group waiting to gain entry to the venue. It was later established that he was carrying a toy pistol. He was identified as V. Rajendran of Vilakudi near Thiruthuraipoondi.

Rajendran told the police he had taken the toy from his car for handing it over to his son.

According to the IG, South, Sanjeev Kumar, investigations have established that the claim was bona fide.
