HIKE IN MEP: Paddy being winnowed at a paddy field in Thrissur. The Central government has hiked minimum export price (MEP) on basmati rice to $1,100 a tonne (Rs.44,000) and to $1,000 a tonne (Rs.40,000) for non-basmati rice to ensure availability of rice within the country.
