Chetan scores 249 in BIT’s big win

BANGALORE: Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT) crushed NIET by 371 runs in the Chamaraju Memorial inter-engineering cricket tournament here on Saturday.

The highlights of BIT’s big victory were Chetan’s knock of 249 (25x4, 16x6) and Hari Prasad’s fine spell (five for 27).

In another match, RNSIT routed IIT by 270 runs. Maharishi hammered 135 for RNSIT.

The scores:

BIT 427 for six in 30 overs (Chetan 249, Vikas 42) bt NIET 56 (Hari Prasad five for 27); RNSIT 314 for four in 30 overs (Maharishi 135, Nikhil Kashyap 66, Lohit 47 n.o.) bt IIT 44 in 14.2 overs.

SBMJC is champion

Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC) emerged the overall champion in the inter-collegiate sports fest conducted by PES College of Business Management here recently.

SBMJC won the table tennis and basketball team titles.

Vijaya Bank posts win

Vijaya Bank prevailed over ASC 53-46 after leading 32-27 at the break in the State ‘A’ division basketball league here late on Friday.

In another match, Young Orions defeated BEML (Mysore) 53-38.

BMS emerges champion

BMS College of Engineering emerged as the overall champion in the State-level inter-engineering college sports tournament here recently.

Throwball: Men: MVJCE bt BMSCE 1-0. Women: BMSCE bt AIT 2-1.

Volleyball: Men: NHCE bt BMSCE 23-25, 24-26, 25-21, 26-24, 15-13. Women: BMSCE bt DSCE 15-25, 25-15, 25-18. Basketball: Men: MSRIT bt DSCE 54-44. Women: RVCE bt MSRIT 24-23.

Anirudh shines

An all-round performance by Anirudh Joshi (five for 15 including a hat-trick and 36) enabled BEML (Mysore) register a seven-wicket win over Software Padigrams India Ltd (SPI), Mysore, in the semifinals of the Infosys Twenty20 Corporate tournament at the Infosys grounds, Mysore, on Saturday.

The scores: Semifinals: SPI (Mysore) 104 in 19.2 overs (Anirudh Joshi five for 15) lost to BEML (Mysore) 106 for three in 16.4 overs (Dhananjaya Murari 38 n.o.); Infosys 197 for four in 20 overs (Arun 55, Devang 41, Vinay 52) bt Triton Valves (Mysore) 54 in 19.1 overs (Vinay five for three). Nirnay rallies to win

Nirnay of Karnataka came back strongly after being 1-4 down in the tie-breaker to register a win over Statemate N. Nithin, 8-7(5) and enter the final qualifying round in the boys’ under-14 singles in the De Paul AITA Talent Series tennis tournament for juniors (u-12 & 14) at the DPIRS and MTC Courts, Mysore, on Saturday.

BHEL (EPD) defeated Government Press 3-1 in a Prasanna Kumar Memorial football tournament match in Bangalore on Saturday. Tony (fourth), Ram Kumar (28th) and R. Kartik (60th) scored for the victor, while Dhanaseelan (51st) reduced the margin.
